This quiz matches your answers with the documented positions of 18 British prime ministers, from Robert Peel to Theresa May. Each one is profiled on the same issues you answer: selling state businesses, trade unions, taxes and public services, emergency powers and the opposition, surveillance and prisons, independence votes, tradition, immigration, free trade and tariffs, and international bodies.
It is a match on issues, not a ranking and not an endorsement. A Victorian prime minister governed a very different country, with a much smaller electorate, so read your result as the prime minister whose stated positions point the same way as yours, then open their page for the full record, sources and critics.
Every statement comes from the bank of the 12 Axes Political Test and is scored the same way, and the match uses the same formula as its historical twin. Read the full methodology.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which prime ministers are in the quiz?
Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli, William Ewart Gladstone, David Lloyd George, Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Alec Douglas-Home, Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, James Callaghan, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May. Each has a full, sourced profile in our historical figures section.
Why are some prime ministers missing?
Our profiles cover 18 prime ministers so far. Many others, such as Robert Walpole, William Pitt the Younger, Lord Salisbury, H. H. Asquith and Stanley Baldwin, do not have a profile yet, and prime ministers after Theresa May are not included. Every prime minister we do profile has enough documented positions on the quiz's issues for a fair match, and none is left out of the results.
How is my match calculated?
Each statement moves you on one of 10 political axes. Your positions are compared with each prime minister's profile on the same axes, and the closest is your match. The percentage shows closeness, not a probability.
Does a match mean I am like this person?
No. The match compares your answers with where each of the prime ministers stood on the same issues. It says nothing about character, personal conduct or everything they did in office. Every figure page sets out what admirers and critics say.
Are my answers saved?
Your result is saved anonymously for statistics: the scores and the closest match, with no name or email. Individual answers are kept only if you tick the optional research box. The share link holds your scores, never your answers.
Is the quiz partisan?
No. Statements describe policies without naming parties or people, and half are worded so that agreeing moves you the other way. Conservative, Labour and Liberal prime ministers can all come out on top.
