About this quiz

How it works

This quiz places you on a single liberal to conservative scale, the way the terms are most often used in the United States. It mixes economic questions, such as taxes and healthcare, with social questions, such as religion in public life and gun ownership.

There are no trick questions and no right answers. Each statement is written without party names or loaded words, and half of them are worded so that agreeing moves you the other way, which keeps a habit of agreeing from tilting your score.

Every statement comes from the same bank as our full tests and is scored the same way, so your quiz result points in the same direction as the Political Compass Test. Read the full methodology.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does this quiz decide if I am liberal or conservative?

Each statement is tied to the economic axis, the social axis, or both. Your answers are averaged into a lean score from 0 (most liberal) to 100 (most conservative). Around 50 means your answers balanced out.

What do liberal and conservative mean here?

In this quiz, liberal means favoring more public action on the economy and more openness to changing social norms. Conservative means favoring free markets and keeping traditional norms. These are broad tendencies, not party labels.

Is the quiz biased?

Statements describe policies and values without naming parties or politicians. Six statements are keyed toward each side, so agreeing with everything lands you near the middle instead of at one end.

Can I be liberal on some issues and conservative on others?

Yes, and most people are. Your result shows which topics pulled you toward each side, and the Political Values Test separates economic, civil, social and world views into four scores.

Are my answers saved?

Your score is saved anonymously for statistics. Individual answers are kept only if you tick the optional research box before seeing your result. No account or email is needed.
