A match is about political positions only. It is not a judgment of anyone's character or record.

This quiz matches your answers with the documented positions of 11 Canadian prime ministers, from Wilfrid Laurier to Justin Trudeau. Each one is profiled on the same issues you answer: selling state businesses, economic planning, public health care, emergency powers, crime, federal power and votes on independence, same-sex marriage, immigration, free trade and Canada's role in the world.
It is a match on issues, not a ranking and not an endorsement. Laurier led a much smaller and very different country, so read your result as the prime minister whose stated positions point the same way as yours, then open their page for the full record, sources and critics.
Every statement comes from the bank of the 12 Axes Political Test and is scored the same way, and the match uses the same formula as its historical twin. Read the full methodology.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which prime ministers are in the quiz?
Wilfrid Laurier, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Louis St. Laurent, John Diefenbaker, Lester B. Pearson, Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin, Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau. Each has a full, sourced profile in our historical figures section.
Why are some prime ministers missing?
John A. Macdonald, the first prime minister, is never a result: his residential school and famine era policies toward Indigenous peoples were described by a 2015 national report as cultural genocide. His page stays on the site with the full record. Prime ministers such as Robert Borden, R. B. Bennett and John Turner do not have a profile yet, and prime ministers after Justin Trudeau are not included.
How is my match calculated?
Each statement moves you on one of 10 political axes. Your positions are compared with each prime minister's profile on the same axes, and the closest is your match. The percentage shows closeness, not a probability.
Does a match mean I am like this person?
No. The match compares your answers with where each of the prime ministers stood on the same issues. It says nothing about character, personal conduct or everything they did in office. Every figure page sets out what admirers and critics say.
Are my answers saved?
Your result is saved anonymously for statistics: the scores and the closest match, with no name or email. Individual answers are kept only if you tick the optional research box. The share link holds your scores, never your answers.
Is the quiz partisan?
No. Statements describe policies without naming parties or people, and half are worded so that agreeing moves you the other way. Liberal, Conservative and Progressive Conservative prime ministers can all come out on top.
